30 Oct Rivenhall IWMF Community Trust Fund: Supporting Local Projects Across Our Communities
We’re delighted to announce that the Rivenhall IWMF Community Trust Fund has now been officially established! The fund will support and strengthen the communities around our site, helping to deliver local projects that make a real, lasting difference.
Once the first payment is made in the coming days, the fund will become fully active. This means that community groups across Kelvedon, Feering, Rivenhall, Silver End, Coggeshall and Bradwell will be able to apply for support for a wide range of local initiatives.
What Is the Rivenhall IWMF Community Trust Fund?
The Community Trust Fund was created as part of our commitment to work in partnership with local residents and organisations. It provides an ongoing source of financial support for projects that benefit the people and environment surrounding the Rivenhall Integrated Waste Management Facility site.
In line with our Planning Agreement, Indaver, the operator of Rivenhall IWMF, will contribute £0.05 for every tonne of waste brought into the facility, up to the maximum 853,000 tonnes permitted. These contributions will build over time, ensuring that the fund continues to grow and remains a sustainable resource for the community.
The fund can be used to support a variety of local initiatives, including (but not limited to):
- Environmental enhancement projects: Such as improving local green spaces, biodiversity or sustainability initiatives
- Ecological programmes: Including conservation, habitat restoration and nature education
- Educational activities: Benefitting local schools, young people or lifelong learning opportunities
By focusing on these areas, the Rivenhall IWMF Community Trust Fund aims to enhance both the natural environment and the quality of life for residents in the surrounding parishes.
How the Fund Works
To ensure fairness and transparency, the fund will be independently managed by the Essex Community Foundation (ECF), a well-established charitable organisation that manages dozens of community funds across Essex.
This partnership means that when a community group applies for funding through ECF, their application will be carefully assessed and matched to the most appropriate fund, which may include the Rivenhall IWMF Community Trust Fund. This approach ensures that valuable local projects have the best chance of receiving support, even if applicants are not yet aware of this specific fund.
Applications for funding can be made via the Essex Community Foundation website: Apply for support – Essex Community Foundation.
All applications will be reviewed by a panel of representatives from Kelvedon, Feering, Rivenhall, Silver End, Coggeshall and Bradwell Parish Councils, Braintree District Council, Essex County Council and Indaver.
This collaborative approach helps ensure that decisions reflect the priorities and needs of the communities the fund is designed to benefit.
Building a Positive Legacy
The creation of the Rivenhall IWMF Community Trust Fund marks an important milestone in our journey to build strong, lasting relationships with our neighbours. While the fund forms part of our planning agreement, we see it as a fantastic opportunity to give back to the communities that support our operations.
We’re proud that the fund will provide a meaningful and long-term contribution to local life, helping to support projects that enhance our shared environment, promote education, and continue to nurture a sense of community across the area. We really look forward to seeing the positive impact it will bring over the months and years ahead.
